Chappell Smith & Arden, P.A. joined forces with the Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Central South Carolina for the 7th Annual Teal Day 5k on September 24th in an effort to raise money and awareness for this awful disease.
There is a severe lack of education about Ovarian Cancer. An estimated 21,750 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer this year. About 13,940 women will die from ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. A woman’s risk of getting ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about 1 in 78. Her lifetime chance of dying from ovarian cancer is about 1 in 108.
Why is this disease killing so many women? It is our observation that there is a lack of information given to women about the warning signs of cancer and with no early screening test available to detect Ovarian Cancer, most women just simply ignore the early warning signs.
The Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Central South Carolina was created as an organization to educate women about this disease that continues to be a leading cause of death in women in the United States. They provide local individuals and families with vital information. Information such as educational literature, in house education through community lunch and learns, vital connections with doctors in our community and other and critical services.
Chappell Smith & Arden, P.A. would like to thank all of our 5k sponsors this year as this event would not be possible without them. Thank you B106.7 FM, Parker Law, LLC and South Carolina Oncology Associates for your support of this wonderful event. We would also like to thank all of our participants who came out to run/walk on the 24th. This event is a success because of all of you! We were able to donate $3,000.00 to the Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Central SC because of YOU. We simply cannot say thank you enough for your support. We hope to see you all in 2023!
