The school bus was making a left turn onto Burr Hill Road near US Highway 17A on Tuesday morning, around 7:27 am, when an SUV rear-ended the bus, which was headed to the Cottageville Elementary School. Twenty-one students occupied the bus, and 18 of the students sustained a variety of personal injuries. It is suspected that the driver of the SUV was speeding, which may have contributed to the accident.

Parents and guardians place their children on school buses daily and entrust that they will travel to school without incident. Unfortunately, many issues may arise that could cause an accident, whether it is the actions of the bus driver, another motorist, or other unexpected factors. If a bus containing numerous students and other passengers engages in a crash, the occupants could sustain a wide range of injuries or even fatalities.
