Report: Johnson & Johnson to settle 1000 more hip cases
Bloomberg reports that Johnson & Johnson is maneuvering to settle one thousand additional products liability cases brought against its line of DePuy ASR hips. This wave of settlements would push the amount Johnson & Johnson has paid recipients of these defective hips to $2.75 billion.
The DePuy ASR hip became notorious in recent years as a result of its metal components scraping metal shavings into the body of a hip replacement patient. These metal shavings would result in “metallosis,” a condition that can kill the affected tissue.
CSA attorneys Hugh McAngus, Jr. and Graham Newman both litigated numerous DePuy ASR hip cases and continue to monitor developments in this area of practice.
